High-stakes elections are underway in Brazil. Far-right presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro won Brazil’s first round of the elections by two points on October 4. The second round is set to take place on October 25. The United States and Meta, in particular, have been acting to sway the vote in favor of far-right Trump ally Flavio Bolsonaro. What is at stake?
Join us in conversation with Panamerican Dispatch, a new independent journalism project of The Real News Network, in partnership with Global Exchange. The site is dedicated to producing and distributing news and analysis directly from Brazil within the United States. We are on the ground and covering the elections.
We’ll be speaking with Maria Luisa Mendonça, Director of the Network for Social Justice and Human Rights in Brazil, and Brazil-based journalists Michael Fox, Nicole Froio and Brian Mier. We will dive into the threat of U.S. interference within Brazil’s elections and what that means for the future of democracy across Latin America. As Trump’s “Donroe Doctrine” attacks the region, these conversations are needed now more than ever.
